Gasparilla Pirate Fest has been Tampa’s community celebration and one of the largest and most unique celebrations in the country since 1904, and includes pirates invading and capturing the City of Tampa. And there’s something for the kids too. Make your plans for the family-friendly, alcohol-free Children’s Gasparilla Extravaganza. And for those with a sweet tooth, for the second year in a row MOSI hosts a fun-filled educational experience – Festival of Chocolate. There will be treats and events for guests of all ages and appetites. Tampa Bay also comes alive with the 12th Annual Black Heritage Festival. This 10-day cultural event brings awareness of African and African-American culture and diversity, and offers exciting events like the FREE street festival at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, which includes a 5-K walk for cancer, children’s and author’s villages, free health screenings and music headliners Rose Royce and Paul Taylor. And while you’re in downtown Tampa, catch the latest edition of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus as they present their brand new show – Dragons! It happens at the Tampa Bay Times Forum from Jan. 4-8.
